The Traveller Movement Youth Work programmes specifically engage with young people Not in Education or Training (NEET) between the ages of 14-25. The 2011 Censes indicates that this is three times more likely for Gypsies and Travellers in comparison to wider society.

The model of youth work that underpins our approach is based on the Critical Social Education model of Youth Work and is designed to promote the personal and social development of young Traveller Gypsy and Roma people.
The overall aim of our Youth Work Programme is to enhance the lives of young people from these communities and ensure they are afforded opportunities to develop their potential and participate to fully and inclusively in civil society.
In order to deliver this aim the TM programme has identified three core objectives
1) Directly provide comprehensive and culturally appropriate programmes of social education and personal development to these young people.
2) Source and develop an advocacy, liaison and resourcing role in relation to policy makers and service providers whose policies and programmes affect the lives of Traveller youth.
3) Create our own education and training opportunities with clear outcomes and progression routes
The Youth Programme works mainly with young Travellers between the ages of 12-25. Our work is not restricted to one particular region. However delivery and inclusion on any of our programmes is dependent on funding.
We use a wide variety of techniques and methods to deliver our programmes coverning a wide range of areas and themes. Below are some of the specific programmes and opportunities we can offer or assist with.
New Horizons Youth Programme
The New Horizons project offers basic advice information guidance signposting and referral to young people falling into the NEET categories. New Horizons also develops and facilitates a wide variety of training and educational opportunities.
The Traveller Movement and the Construction Youth Trust are running a series of 6 whole days of construction training for young Gypsy, Roma and Travellers between the ages of 16 and 24 living in Great London. At the end of the course successful students will be able to get the CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) card. This is essential for working on construction sites.

Who R We Youth Forum
The Who We R Youth Forum is a network of young Gypsy Traveller and Roma that meet on a quarterly basis to discuss a wide range of social issues impacting on their community, arrange outings, events and short summer projects. This topics covered are wide ranging. The group is chaired and serviced by the TM internship project.
The objectives of the forum are to create a safe space and platform for young people to express themselves and engage in civil society.

The Traveller Movement Community Internship programme is an opportunity for on-the-job training for community members. Placements range from 3-12 months.
Successful applicants to our programmers are given a wide range of experiences during their time with us. Interns are given genuine responsibility and real projects to work on, some of these include working closely with the policy team undertaking back ground research, data analysis and/or organising events. Interns can also work closely with the capacity building and partnerships team on a wide range of health, education or youth projects.
