About us

The Traveller Movement aims to advocate for and work with Romani (Gypsy), Roma & Irish Traveller people to tackle discrimination and promote equality.

Our Mission and Impact

We believe in a world where Gypsy, Romani, and Traveller communities are fully recognised as minority ethnic groups, respected for their rich cultural heritage, and empowered to shape their own futures.

Equality for All

We fight against the “last acceptable form of racism” through legal advocacy and public campaigning.

Self-Determination

We support communities in finding their own solutions and leading the conversation on the issues that affect them.

Strategic Impact

We use evidence-based research to influence UK legislation and local authority practices.

What we do

The Traveller Movement operates with a “bottom-up” approach.

Our frontline work informs our national policy recommendations, ensuring that the lived experiences of the community are heard in the halls of power.

Our pillars of priority

We work across four key pillars, addressing key areas that are priorities for our community

Romani (Gypsy), Roma and Irish, Scottish and Welsh Traveller Identity & Rights

Education for Change

Health Equity & Inclusion

Rights, Protection & Advocacy

Our Story

Founded in 1999 as the Irish Traveller Movement in Britain, we expanded our remit in 2008 to include Romani (Gypsy) and Roma people. Today, we are proud to be a partnership of Gypsy, Roma and Traveller community members and settled allies working together.

Our Patrons and Trustees, Advisory Board and team are primarily people from the communities we serve, ensuring that our work remains authentic, inclusive, and effective.
