FAMILY VIGIL AT 1:00 PM ON 5 AUGUST 2023 FOR THE LATE MICHAEL MCDONAGH – KILLED BY SECURITY STAFF AT A PARKDEAN HOLIDAY RESORT IN AUGUST LAST YEAR
On 5 August 2022, Michael McDonagh, then aged 53, was killed when he was forcibly restrained by staff in the entertainment area at the Parkdean Holiday Resort at Camber Sands, East Sussex. Michael and his family were there for a weekend holiday break. Michael’s family understand that up to 6 members of Parkdean’s staff were involved in the restraint of Michael, leading directly to his unlawful killing. There had been no disagreement between Michael and any of the holidaymakers using the resort. Those involved in the move on Michael to restrain him were Parkdean staff, including their security staff.
Over the past 12 months the police have carried out lengthy and extensive investigations into Michael‘s death and the family expect to learn of criminal charges being brought in the very near future.
Michael’s death was caused by compression to his neck and it has been reported that a number of witnesses at the scene are said to have heard him calling out “I can’t breathe”.
Michael has left behind his wife, their six adult children, grandchildren, wider family members and friends. They all continue to deeply grieve their painful loss.
On Saturday, 5 August 2023, Michael’s family will gather on the first anniversary of his unlawful killing for a memorial mass and vigil outside the Parkdean resort at Camber Sands, starting at 1 pm.
Michael’s daughter, Stephanie McDonagh, says “it is now 12 months since my dad’s death. Our family deeply grieve our loss in such awful circumstances. We look to the police and the CPS to complete their investigations and assessments as soon as possible and to bring criminal charges against all those responsible for the unlawful killing of my dad. Our family want full justice for my father.“
