We remember with great respect and gratitude our late Patron, Lord Avebury, whose unwavering support, wisdom and friendship enriched our organisation for many years.
29 Jun 2026Lord Avebury devoted more than five decades to championing the rights of Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities. Throughout his distinguished public life, he was a tireless advocate for equality, justice and human rights, helping to shape landmark legislation that improved access to safe stopping places and continually speaking out against discrimination and exclusion. His voice in Parliament, and beyond, gave hope and representation to communities whose rights were too often overlooked.
As our Patron, Lord Avebury was generous with his time, encouragement and advice. He believed passionately in our mission and never wavered in his commitment to improving the lives of Gypsy and Traveller people. His integrity, compassion and determination inspired everyone who had the privilege of working alongside him.
His legacy extends far beyond politics. It lives on in the organisations he supported, the lives he touched, and the progress made towards greater equality and understanding. We remain deeply grateful for his years of service, friendship and steadfast advocacy.
Lord Avebury will always hold a special place in the history of our organisation, and we are proud to honour his memory and the extraordinary contribution he made to Gypsy and Traveller communities across the United Kingdom.
