The relationship between the police and Romani (Gypsy), Roma and Irish Traveller communities is characterised by mutual mistrust, hostility, and poor communication. In 2018 the Traveller Movement conducted a national research project which surveyed all 45 territorial police forces (conducted by FOI requests), and thirty-one in-depth qualitative interviews with police officers and community members living and working in five police force areas in England.
